Beaufield Veterinary Clinic

Day One:

I went in to the kennels and fed the animals there. then i went to the operation room and watched the nurses prepare for an operation. They weighed a dog and gave him anesthetic based on his weight. They cleaned the table and took all the needed equipment out of the sterilizer and Then they prepared the dog for surgery (shaving and cleaning the area, tubing the dog in order for him to breathe etc). When he woke up, he was put in a clean kennel to recover from the anesthetic.

We then went into another room and prepared that room for a surgery. The nurses laid bubble wrap on the metal table because this surgery was longer and the animal was older. This dog was getting a fake ligament put into her leg because her ligament had torn. She was prepared the same as the other dog and then she was put on a stronger anesthetic because she was much bigger than the first dog. She also had to be given oxygen and gas because her surgery was also much longer. The surgeon had to drill through two pieces of bone and put a clean wire through the holes made. The surgeon was telling me about the different joints in the body and that cats come in with broken jaws very often because they jump to a wall and hit their chins off the top if their feet dont land on it first.

After the surgery was over, the dog was bandaged up and we started to make up microchip boxes as the owner of beaufield owns the company (Fido).

Day Two:

When I got in I walked two of the dogs, Lucy and Sunny. I walked them until they were tired and then I brought them into the kennel rooms and fed them both. I then went down to the isolation room and fed a stray cat that was brought in because its eye was infected. I then went up to the surgery room and watched a female dog being neutered. She also had to get 2 tumors removed and then she was brought to isolation to recover.

After that, I had to go into the kennel room and sweep the floor as one of the kittens had knocked over her food bowl. I then went to the downstairs kennel room and swept and mopped the floor. After I had finished I was asked to make more of the microchip boxes. It was a quiet day at the vet so after I had made the boxes, I mopped the waiting room. I was let home early because everything was finished.

Day Three:

When I got in I went in to the kennel room and swept the floor. I had to fill the mop buckets and mop the kennel floor. I was then allowed to play with the kitten that had just been cured of ringworm. Then I went downstairs and mopped the downstairs kennel room. I then had to go back to the surgery and watch a female cat being neutered. I learned that they shake the cat before so that the ovaries fall and are easier to find. Then I had to watch two male west highland terriers being neutered and a large male dog getting two teeth pulled and the rest of its teeth de-scaled.

After that I swept and cleaned the stairs. I then was asked to clean the windowsills in the kennel room, the laboratory and the operation room. Since the vet was quiet, I was asked to mop the floors of the two consult rooms and the waiting room. It was raining , so the entrance to the waiting room was slightly mucky. I was then let home early as all the work that I could do had been done.
